Japan, like the rest of the world, is facing a pandemic caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). Japan has postponed the 2020 Olympics and declared a state of emergency beginning in April 2020 and by May 26 the infected cases in total were 16,600 (about one third of them in the Tokyo area) and the number of deaths was 846.
