Work groups have been appointed by the Board of Directors to implement a plan that will help achieve ICDA's Mission to support dietetic associations and their members, beyond national and regional boundaries, by achieving:
An integrated communications system
An enhanced image for the profession
ncreased awareness of standards of education, training and practice in dietetics
- Maintain the ICDA web site: Working with experienced national dietetic associations to build content important to Dietitians around the world.
- Enhance Dietetics Around the World: The ICDA newsletter has been the main vehicle for communication among ICDA Members since 1994. Initially the newsletter was available to individual Dietitians on a limited basis and since 2002 Dietitians have been able to read and print Dietetics Around the World from the web site.
- International Congress of Dietetics in 2008 and in 2012: The Japan Dietetic Association will host the Congress in 2008 and the Dietitians Association of Australia will host the Congress in 2012 as an important forum for information sharing and exchange. Symposia to build common ground and promote standards are an important objective for each Congress.
- Representation and collaboration with international organizations: Develop systems that will help ICDA representatives be effective.
- Develop and promote of an image that reflects common principles of dietetic practice: Study the work of the profession around the world and commonly held principles of practice, and describe a Code of Ethics for ICDA Member associations.
- Make information available: Systematically and regularly collect data and work towards creating an accessible database on dietetics education, competencies, and quality assurance systems related to dietetic education and competencies.
- A solid plan for promoting standards: Identify key organizations and meetings for papers and presentations about dietetic standards and use the International Congress of Dietetics as a means for building awareness of standards with Member associations of ICDA. Identify gaps in practice standards and shape an action plan to close the gaps at Official Representatives Meetings during the XIV International Congress of Dietetics in 2004.
