Irene MacKay

Irene Mackay, SRD, FBDA

Irene Mackay is Chair of the Board of Directors of the International Confederation of Dietetic Associations, a Fellow of the British Dietetic Association, and Dietetic Consultant to the Coeliac United Kingdom. Irene has worked and studied in Scotland, Canada, and the United States, and she believes the challenge for dietitians is to grasp the opportunities available to work together to strengthen the profession worldwide.

Irene Mackay has been the Official Representative of the British Dietetic Association on the International Committee of Dietetic Associations from 1992, and was elected to the Board of Directors of the International Confederation of Dietetic Associations in July 2000 and as the first Chair of the Board of Directors. She has been the British Dietetic Association's Delegate to the European Federation of Associations of Dietitians (EFAD) for numerous years, and is currently the elected President. Irene Chaired the Organizing Committee for the XIII International Congress of Dietetics held in Edinburgh, UK July 2000. Over the course of her career, Irene has been an active volunteer with the British Dietetic Association.

Irene Mackay qualified as a clinical dietitian and worked in Scotland before taking up a post in Canada. On return to the UK, she was appointed to one of London's major teaching hospitals having responsibility for the clinical and community services and training for student dietitians. She was awarded a Winston Churchill Traveling Fellowship and studied Nutrition and Health Education in the USA.
