ICDA is an Association of national dietetic associations. Together, the national dietetic association Members represent about 150,000 dietetics professionals around the world.

All Member national dietetic associations meet the criteria that

    A "national dietetic association" is a professional society or association of members, at least 51% of whom are dietitians, that is, persons with a qualification in nutrition and dietetics, recognised by national authority(s). The dietitian applies the science of nutrition to the feeding and education of individuals or groups in health and disease. The minimum level of education of a dietitian is a bachelor degree and a period of supervised professional practice of at least 500 hours."

Mission
The International Confederation of Dietetic Associations supports national dietetic associations and their members, beyond national and regional boundaries, by achieving:

    . . . An integrated communications system

    . . . An enhanced image for the profession

    . . . Increased awareness of standards of education, training and practice in dietetics

The International Confederation of Dietetic Associations has a history that began in 1952 with the first International Congress of Dietetics in Amsterdam. In 2000, at the XIII International Congress of Dietetics, official delegates of national dietetic associations adopted a new name and the first Mission for the International Confederation of Dietetic Associations. In 2006 the International Confederation of Dietetic Associations was incorporated in Canada. Today, the Members are about 40 national dietetic associations and together represent well over 150,000 Dietitians.
